   Fit To Run 5K Training

 


We have an exciting new program for your 5K training!  It’s free, and you and your friends are welcomed to join in on the fun!  You pick your goal or race date, and we will provide you and your friends with a 6 week schedule that builds you up sensibly to your goal race.  Not ready to start training for a 5K race?  We have a walking schedule also! Written into each schedule will be our free Social Run at your favorite Run On! store.  Once per week everyone meets up at the Social Run for running, vendor giveaways, and social activities after the run! 

Some of you may want to run together more than the night of the Social Run – no problem!  We welcome you to visit your local store for access to water and bathroom facilities and have fun on your run!

Training for a 15K, Half or Full Marathon will provide you with the expert coaching, proven training schedules, and inspiration to achieve your running goals. The program features and dates for classes based on your goal race are presented below. You'll also find class time, price, and age requirements.

Spring 2017 Marathon & Half Training 

Spring Full Marathon Class:   12/17/16 thru 5/2/17

Spring Half Marathon Class:  12/17/16 thru 3/14/17

Locations & Times: 
Long runs on Sunday at 6:00 AM at Run On! Dallas or on Saturday at 5:30 AM at Run On! Coppell. 

Tuesday and Thursday runs at 5:15 AM at Dallas Mockingbird Run On!, Richardson Run On!, Coppell Run On!, and 5:00 AM Allen High School

Please note: Depending on class signups Full Marathon and Half Marathon participants at the Coppell location may train together.   Full Marathon runners will go back out for additional mileage after the Half runners complete their run.

Goal Races for Full Marathon Class: RNR Dallas Half, Big D, Boston, Flying Pig, Oklahoma City, Colorado, and all other late Spring Full and Half marathons.

Goal Races for the Half Marathon Class:  Rock N Roll Dallas Half Marathon is primary goal race, but other Half Marathons early to mid March can be accommodated.

Minimum Requirement to Enter the Class:  Minimum Age:18  Half Marathon: Run/Walk 3-4 miles at a 4:1 run/walk ratio.    Full Marathon: 20-25 Miles/Week base with 8-Mile Long Run.  If you are in the half marathon run/walk group, you must be able to maintain a 13:00 minute per mile pace during the running portion in order to enter the program.  Full marathon run/walk is not available in the Spring class.
 

Price Full Marathon class: $230 for early signup, $250 beginning on first day of class

Price Half Marathon class:  $165 for early signup, $175 beginning on first day of class

OUR DISTANCE CLASSES ARE AN AMAZING VALUE -- FOR APPROXIMATELY $12-$13 PER WEEK YOU GET:

  • Water stops every 2 miles / electrolyte replacement also on the long runs

  Good Form Running

 


Good Form Running is all about making running easier and reducing your risk of injury.  Experienced Good Form coaches utilize interactive demonstration, lecture, progressive form drills, and video form analysis to help you improve running form.  Improving your running form reduces the effort needed to run any specific pace and greatly reduces the risk of common running injuries.

 

Dates: GOOD FORM RUNNING CLASSES BEGIN AGAIN MARCH 2017
Location & Times: Class meets for 4 weekends.  Each class lasts approximately 1 hour.
Important Note: If you cannot attend the first GFR class, we ask that you sign up for the next session. We do this because the first class is the foundation of this course.  Without it, you would not be getting its true value.
Price: $50
Cap: The maximum number of participants in each class is 15, so register now.

TRAIL TO GRASSLANDS 

Are you ready to break up your street running routine?  We have the class for you!  Come train with our expert coaches for the Grasslands Trail Run!   Trail running is a beautiful, enjoyable, and beneficial sport and training for a big race is motivating.  Primary distance is the Half Marathon race, however, depending on sign ups the Full Marathon may be offered also.  Class meets on Sunday mornings at different trails around the Metroplex.  Space is limited in this class!  Click HERE to sign up!

Dates: December 18, 2016 – March 12, 2017.
Locations and Time: Sundays @ 7:00am (offsite w/ four trail rotation)
Goal Race: Grasslands Trail Run 26.2M & 13.1M
Minimum Age and Requirement: 18. Must be able to run 5 miles. No run/walk group.
Price: $120 for early sign up, $130 on first day of class

MEET OUR COACHES

Bryan Fisher is an RRCA Certified Coach with multiple seasons coaching road and trail programs with the Dallas Running Club and RunOn!.  He began running at an advanced age after years of participation in team sports including soccer and basketball. Bryan is a resident of East Dallas, where he lives with his 2 dogs. Bryan's personal accomplishments include Pikes Peak Ascent & Marathon Double Finisher, Inca Trail Marathon Finisher (pictured here), RunIceland.org 110k Stage Race Finisher, Boston Marathon Finisher.

Lisa Hyne has been a road runner for about 10 years.  She first focused on half marathons, then began completing full marathons, as well as a 50K road race.   She has coached for RunOn! Coppell for many years helping runners prepare for 5Ks and the Turkey Trot.  Lisa also received my RRCA certification. About trail running, Lisa says, "I got in to trail running by accident. I had heard about a beautiful 50K race out in a canyon and signed up without really knowing what trail running was.  So I hopped on the trails, and it was love at first step! The peacefulness of the trails, the easy pace and the beauty that is all around us in DFW surprised me. I ran the 50K canyon race and really enjoyed it. I have been dedicating most of my runs to the trails since then and completed a 50 mile as well as 100K trail race."

Jennifer is a RRCA certified running coach and Cooper Institute Level 2 Certified Personal Trainer with 12 years’ experience coaching athletes of all levels and abilities.  Her own running experience started with the Run On! beginners 5K training program back in 2005, but her running resume now includes several marathons including Boston, multiple trail ultra-marathons including the Western States 100 and the Ironman Texas Triathlon.  From Good Form Running to Dietary Guidance, Jennifer can help you reach your running goals.

   ADVANCED SPEED DEVELOPMENT

 


Date of class: February 25, 2017 thru April 22, 2017
Please Note: Runners will participate in three 5K races during the program -- These races are TBD, and race fees are not included in the class.

Locations:  Class meets at the Jewish Community Center parking lot in Dallas 5:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will meet for the long run at 7:00 AM at the Dallas Mockingbird store Saturday mornings.

This class coached by Lamar Fue is designed to be a off season training program that will improve speed and turnover for distance runners.  The target runner is someone who continuously trains for distance runs, and wants to break that cycle up.  The training includes running on a variety of surfaces (road, track & grass) as well as different terrains. It will include movement preparation exercises & basic core strengthening.  

Please note:  this class trains using heart rate as opposed to pace.  It’s a more self-sufficient class than our traditional pace based classes.  There will be times when you are running without a group in this class due to differences in fitness and endurance.  You will bring your own water,

There are strict minimum requirements to enter this class:

  • You must have a functioning heart rate monitor

  • You must have run an average of at least 20 miles per week the 4 weeks before class starts

  • You must be able to run below a 30 minute 5K

  • You must have a Yoga Mat and towel

  • You must have a water bottle and a safety light
